How Many Beaches Are There on Seabrook Island?

There are two main beaches on Seabrook Island, North Beach and Pelican Beach (also known as Sunset Beach). You can also enjoy the shoreline at the Seabrook Island Beach Club! Here’s more information on each beach:
North Beach
- East Shore of Seabrook Island
- One of the widest beach fronts in Coastal Carolina!
- Known for its picture-perfect sunrises (it’s the first part of the island that sees the sun in the morning!)
Pelican Beach
- Pelican Beach is less quiet and secluded than North Beach, and is quite popular with families!
- Great spot for surf fishing, dolphin watching, and the best sunsets on the island (hence why it’s also known as Sunset Beach!)
- Calm waters make it a good spot if you’re traveling with young kids
Seabrook Island Beach Club
- Most homeowners belong to the club, so if a member owns the home you are renting, their membership extends to you! To access the amenities, you will need a Club Amenity Card
- Seabrook Island Club amenities are available with paid access and include a fitness center, Lake House, community pools, golf, an equestrian center, tennis, pickleball, and dining options.
- The club is also located directly on the waterfront, so you can enjoy the beach with all of these amenities, too!
How Does Public Beach Access Work on Seabrook Island?
Since Seabrook is a gated community, beach access is restricted to owners, club members, and guests like you who are renting homes. A vehicle pass is required to enter and park on the island, so if you aren’t renting a home here, you’re out of luck. Seabrook doesn’t have public beach access! Lucky for you, though, you have access to the best vacation rentals on the island with Coastal Getaways!
Seabrook Island Dog Beach

There’s no designated “dog beach” on Seabrook Island, but all of the beaches here are pet-friendly! It’s the perfect way to let your pup blow off some steam and get their energy out, plus they won’t have to stay cooped up in your rental home while everybody else has fun.
If you plan to take your pup along with you to the beach, there are some basic rules to follow:
- Restricted Areas (Red): There is one restricted area extending from Boardwalk #1 to the Atlantic Ocean that does not allow pets
- Limited Restrictions (Yellow): From 300 yards northwest of a line extending from Boardwalk #9 (Pelican Watch Boardwalk) to the Edisto River, continuing in a northwesterly direction to Privateer Creek, pets must be leashed
- General Beach Area (Green): In all other areas of the beach, pets must remain on leash during peak season/times (10 AM-5 PM April 1-September 30). From October 1 to March 31, pets may be off-leash in the general beach area, provided they are under owner control.
Beach Rules
Our beaches are incredibly important to local conservation efforts, so there are some important rules to keep in mind when enjoying your time by the water. You can find a full list of rules on the Town of Seabrook Island website, but the main takeaways are:
- Don’t walk on the dunes (they’re incredibly important to the local environment!)
- No driving on the beach
- Do not disturb loggerhead turtles or endangered/threatened bird species
- Don’t litter, and pick up after your pets!
- Follow all dog rules (as outlined above)
- No fireworks!
At the end of the day, we want to conserve the natural environment that makes our beautiful beaches so special and be kind and considerate of our neighbors while doing so.

Frequently Asked Questions About Seaside Beaches:
Are there lifeguards on Seabrook Island beaches?
No. Seabrook Island beaches are unguarded year‑round, so swimming is at your own risk. Families with kids should stick to calmer areas and avoid rough tide conditions.
Do Seabrook Island beaches get crowded in the summer?
Compared to public Charleston-area beaches, no, but July and early August are the busiest. Expect the most activity mid‑day near Pelican Beach and beach club access points.
Can you bike to the beach from most Seabrook Island rentals?
Yes. The island is flat and bike‑friendly, and many guests bike instead of driving. Bike racks are located near most boardwalks, but bring a lock during peak season.
