Southern Living Idea House
This may not quite be a seasonal event, but it’s certainly a can’t-miss stop. Every year, Southern Living creates its “Idea House,” a custom-built home that showcases the latest home design trends and the Southern lifestyle. The magazine partners with local artisans, architects, designers, and builders to create these homes. They’re then open for the public to explore!
2024’s Southern Living Idea House is right on the Kiawah River, just a short distance from our Coastal Getaways Rentals! Our area was honored to provide the setting for the Idea House, which features stunning details, from everything from the shingles to the flooring. You can learn more about the people who built and designed the house and everything else when you visit!
Exploring and touring the Idea House is a unique way to spend a day on vacation. The House is open from August 9 through December 22, Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. A portion of the ticket sale proceeds goes to Communities In Schools of South Carolina, Sea Island Habitat for Humanity, and the Mother Emanuel Memorial Foundation.
Bohicket Half Marathon and 5K

On your mark, get set, go! It’s time for the Bohickey Half Marathon and 5K! This seasonal event on Seabrook Island was founded in 2010 to provide the Low Country running community with a top-quality 5K & 10K event. It’s been going strong ever since!
You won’t find better scenery than along this stunning course, with sea island marshes, numerous wildlife sightings, and a fresh ocean breeze to keep you cool. What more could you ask for?
Annual Turkey Trot

Thanksgiving is almost upon us, and that means that it’s nearly time for the annual Turkey Trot! Whether you’re a serious runner who’ll take any opportunity to hop on the course or just want to spend some time outside with your family on a special holiday, this Turkey Trot is open to all skill levels! In fact, it’s not even officially timed—there’s a clock at the start and finish, but no one is recording your time. This road race is all about having fun!
Holiday Art Fair

Looking for the perfect gifts for your family this holiday season? Head over to the Holiday Art Fair! The fair will have a wide array of work from local artists on display. You never know what you could find when you shop local!

Lowcountry Christmas Tree Lighting

After the Holiday Craft Fair, it’s time for the Lowcountry Christmas Tree Lighting! This is a beloved annual seasonal event on Seabrook Island. Join in on the holiday cheer and grab some smores, wine, or hot chocolate while you watch the annual tree lighting!
Kiawah Marathon & Half-Marathon

Lace up your running shoes; it’s time for the Kiawah Marathon! If you missed out on the Bohicket Race, you’re in luck. The Kiawah Marathon & Half Marathon, back for its 46th year in 2024, occurs less than a month later!
Take in the gorgeous scenery of Kiawah as you make your way towards the finish line. And don’t forget to enjoy some food and entertainment once you’re done!
Seabrook Island Polar Bear Plunge

Brr! This seasonal event on Seabrook Island is not for the faint of heart. Take a plunge in the ocean on January 1st to ring in the New Year! The polar plunge is free, and there are no reservations required. Have fun, polar bears!
