When you think of South Carolina, you think of sunny shorelines, gorgeous ocean views, and plentiful activities and things to do. This scenic southern state is all that and more, and it’s a great place to visit year-round! Have you ever considered a snowbird rental in South Carolina?
Seabrook Island is not just a summer vacation destination. In fact, it’s a popular destination for many snowbird renters! Let’s explore some of the reasons why you should consider a snowbird rental in South Carolina!
What is Snowbird Renting?
Snowbird rentals provide a warm getaway for those who live in colder states. Many snowbird renters are retirees, but with the takeover of remote work over the last few years, just about anyone can decide to travel somewhere for the winter and stay in a long-term rental!
These “snowbirds” often come back to the same destination, and maybe even the same rental, year after year, and discover a home away from home in a new location. Are you dreaming of being a snowbird renter now? That dream could become a reality here with Coastal Getaways.
Why Should You Choose a Snowbird Rental in South Carolina?
South Carolina is a perfect place for snowbird rentals for many reasons! Let’s explore a few.
Mild Temperatures
Seabrook Island has relatively mild temperatures all year. If you’re used to the icy winter weather up north, it’ll feel like a tropical paradise here! Okay, maybe that’s a little far. But we swear, the weather is nice and temperate, and you won’t be freezing your toes off. In the mornings and evenings, you’ll undoubtedly need a sweater to cozy up in, but the refreshing sea breeze more than makes up for the slight chill in the air.
Here are the average temperatures on Seabrook Island in the off-season by month:
November:
Highs: 69°F Lows: 53°F
December:
Highs: 63°F Lows: 47°F
January:
Highs: 60°F Lows: 44°F
February:
Highs: 62°F Lows: 46°F
March:
Highs: 68°F Lows: 52°F
Beautiful Scenery
One of the main reasons people decide to travel somewhere warm for the winter (besides the weather) is the change of scenery. Trade in your dreary winter landscape for a beautiful oceanfront view! Even though it’s too chilly to swim (unless you’re feeling super brave), you can still take in absolutely breathtaking views as you take a stroll along the ocean or sit down in a beach chair and relax a bit.
Many snowbirds love beachcombing in the off-season on Seabrook Island. The quiet of the beach means there’s way less competition and distraction as you scour the beach for treasure. You never know what you’ll find when you spend some time combing through the sand here! If you do decide to go beachcombing, keep in mind that you should be conscious of the marine life around you. Don’t take any live sea creatures like starfish! You can also make a difference in the local community by disposing of any litter that might be around.
Snowbird Activities: Golf
This might be the most classic snowbird activity of them all. Golfing is a super popular activity for snowbird renters here on Seabrook Island! Looking to get out and golf? Lucky for you, we wrote a whole blog piece on the best golf Seabrook Island has to offer last month! Check out our post now, and get out on the course!
Tennis
Tennis is another classic snowbird activity here on Seabrook Island. Whether you’re a tennis expert or are looking to pick up a new sport, it’s a fun way to stay active in the winter.
Check out Seabrook Island’s Racquet Club for more information on how you can get involved in tennis. They offer informative lessons for everyone from beginners to seasoned players, 15 state-of-the-art Har-tru courts, challenging clinics, and a range of leagues from social to competitive.
No equipment? No problem! You can also rent equipment from them, so your lack of a racquet doesn’t need to hold you back.
Horseback Riding
Looking for a new way to get around the island? Live out your equestrian dreams and go on a horseback ride!
Again, you don’t already have to be an expert to participate in this snowbird activity. They offer lessons for beginners and those of all skill levels! Bring along some apples and carrots to feed the grazing horses at the Equestrian Center, and try your hand at riding one of these equine beauties.
The staff at the Equestrian Center are highly experienced professionals, so you have nothing to worry about, even if you’re new to the world of horses. Horseback riding is a fun and unique way to see the island from a new vantage point, and we’d highly encourage you to try it!

Crooked Oaks Golf Course
Ah, if you’re feeling like you want to get out on the course for a nice relaxing day of golf, this is the course for you. Crooked Oaks offers a fairly traditional layout, with towering oak trees lining its fairways and undulating greens that require careful reading.
Designed by golf legend Robert Trent Jones Sr., the course is challenging but fair, with wide fairways that are forgiving to those who may not always hit it straight off the tee. However, the approach shots are where you’ll need to bring your A-game, as the greens are well-protected by bunkers and water features.
They host group golf outings if you’re looking to plan an event, and also offer instruction if you’re looking to improve on your game—take a lesson by yourself or join one of their couples classes!
Ocean Winds Golf Course
If you’re looking to play a round with a true coastal feel, Ocean Winds Golf Course is a must-play. This course, also designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., takes you right up to the Atlantic Ocean, with several holes offering impressive oceanside views. It’s a par-72 course that combines natural beauty with a layout that challenges all skill levels.
Ocean Winds is particularly known for its ever-present ocean breeze, which can turn an ordinary hole into a real test of skill. The back nine, in particular, brings you closer to the coastline, where the wind becomes a significant factor. This course demands both power and finesse, making it an engaging experience for golfers of all abilities.

Osprey Point is a can’t miss course when you’re visiting Seabrook Island. Just a short drive away in Kiawah, this course is a true hidden gem here in South Carolina.

Each hole is memorable, with four challenging par-3s, four extremely distinctive par-5s and ten outstanding par-4s ranging in length from 340 to 461 yards.
The course is always in pristine condition and, and also boasts an impressive, elegant clubhouse as well. After you’re done your game, visit the clubhouse (affectionately called Osprey’s 19th hole) and see if you can spot one of the course’s famous alligators from the veranda!
